TRAVIS
FRYMAN'S HOT CORNER

- Vitals
-
- Travis Fryman was born 3-25-69 in
Lexington Kentucky. He has two younger brothers who have
both played professional baseball in the minor leagues.
- During the off-season he resides
in Cantonment, Florida, with his wife Kathleen and son
Mason.
- He enjoys hunting and fishing, and
his favorite music is... you guessed it... Country. He
also enjoys listening to some Christian music.
Travis participates in the campaign
against tobacco use and was also involved with the Children's
Miracle Network Telethon. His wife Kathleen was also involved
in charity work while Travis was in Detroit, organizing the
annual coat drive as well as other events around the metro
Detroit area.
Read about his bowhunting adventure
in Big League Bowhunter.

- Taking on the Game
- Travis is a born again Christian,
a believer that Jesus Christ died for his sins and rose

- Some true Diamond Gems:
- Travis was drafted 30th overall in
the 1987 draft out of high school; he moved rapidly
through the Tigers' farm system and became a regular part
of the lineup in 1990. He has become known as a fastball
hitter, so anytime you get him matched up against a
power-pitcher, it's fun to watch the ball fly. One of his
weaknesses has been strikeouts, but this has not hindered
his production level. Each year he posts around a .280
batting average and generates over 20 round-trippers in
the season in addition to 20-30 doubles. He also
consistently nears the century mark in Runs Batted In
year in and year out. As well as having a quick bat,
Fryman has one of the strongest arms in the league and
can throw runners out from the hot corner with his
bulls-eye shot. He's hard-nosed and intense on the field,
but laid-back off the field.
In one memorable doubleheader in
1997, Fryman tied the game in the 11th inning with a homer
off of ChiSox closer Roberto Hernandez, and then slammed a
3-run shot in the 9th inning of the nightcap for a 4-3 Tiger
win.
